Building record RGH 170 - Ravenswood Hall

16th century hunting lodge, once part of the collection of houses belonging to the Rougham Estate. As with many 16th century houses, the property has been extended and additions have been made throughout the centuries. The property features a variety of architectural details and design, including from the Jacobean and Edwardian period. The upper storey exhibits an Edwardian Tile hung façade which is unusual for the area, and a Pantile roof; however, it is likely that the property was originally thatched. Ornamentation has been added to the original jetties and contemporary windows have been added to the original windowsills, including a late 17th century 3 light casement window with leaded panes and Edwardian 3-light mullion-and-transom type casements. In the centre of the roof, a gabled dormer was added during the Jacobean period, denoted by the tie beams carved with Jacobean Ornamentation. The evolution of the architectural design of the asset points to the property’s significance within the Rougham estate over its history as a place to entertain guests. Historically the site was in a woodland sertting but the 1904 Ordnance Survey map shows extensive wwodland clearance (S1).
