Full Description
1943: Hearth had been excavated in 1943 by H Spencer, IPSMG (not recorded) but no pottery or flints had been found.
1946: Excavated by Basil Brown, July 1946
1946-1947: Further excavation by Brown October 1946-1947
Several areas of hard trodden sand with embedded crumbs of pottery and charcoal. No trace of wall structure. One sunken hearth containing pottery and a quantity of clay.
Finds: pottery (plain), flints including possible sickle, sandstone saddle querns. Cutting end of polished flint axe.
Brown records various hearth sites in his notes, with many sketches and also gives drawings of Mildenhall ware pottery found on site.
