Full Description

Complex field system with rectilinear field boundaries, traces of which meet at right angles. Two groups of field boundaries are apparent, one to the SW has a short length of trackway on the E side. Field boundaries suggesting rectangular fields occur a little to the NE, again with a length of straight trackway to the E, though some field boundaries appear to cross it (S1).
A possible Later Prehistoric/Roman or Post Medieval rectlinear field system, defined by ditches, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on TM 21353746 in fields to the east of Chelmondiston. The field system is defined by a number of linear ditches on a north-east south-west axis with other linear ditches running at right angles from these. The ditches appear to form a number of long rectangular fields. Fragments of a trackway arranged on the north-east south-west alignment are visible at TM 21263732, TM 21333743 and TM 21523765. The date of the field system is unclear but it is likely to either be of Later Prehistoric/Roman or Post Medieval date. (S1-S5)
