Full Description

Extension of archaeology that was excavated due east of the site, while the more tentative cluster in Area 3 appears to correspond with white heat-cracked flints found during fieldwalking. Numerous linear anomalies, ferrous responses and magnetic disturbance have been detected in the survey which are associated with the former WWII RAF Bungay airbase that was once located on the site. Ridge and furrow cultivation has also been marked in the south of Area 3. Responses of uncertain are scattered throughout the survey and while archaeological origins for all of the anomalies cannot be discounted, the majority are likely to have been caused by natural and/or agricultural processes. Numerous former field boundaries and land drains have also been detected. A few of the strong ferrous responses and magnetic disturbance correspond with the locations of former ponds (S1).
