Full Description
St John's Children's Home was built by the Ipswich Poor Law Union in 1879 at Bloomfield Street and could accommodate 80 boys and 50 girls. Boys were taught farming, tailoring, shoe-making and carpentry. Girls were taught needlework and household skills for domestive service. An infirmary was later added. The buildings were dmeolished in the 1970s and the site redevloped as a housing estate. (S1).
