Monument record CLA 174 - Cropmark of undated, possibly prehistoric curvilinear enclosure

A large curvilinear enclosure, possibly of prehistoric date, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1). Measuring approximately 87m east to west, and 81m north to south, it is defined by a narrow ditch, with evidence of a double ditch on its north side. There is no clearly defined entrance; a gap on the east and southeast sides of the ditch circuit may simply be a product of the cropmark being masked, or similar, rather than representing former entrances. The size and morphology of the enclosure is broadly similar to others recorded approximately 3.5-4.2 km to the northeast, at Poslingford (PSG 052) and Cavendish (CAV 097). No interior features are evident but the slightly protruding southeastern ‘corner’ could reflect the ditch circuit deliberately encompassing a pre-existing feature.
