Full Description
October 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
Linear boundary and/or drainage ditches, of potentially medieval to post medieval date, and a former watercourse, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-S2) and visualised lidar data (S3). The watercourse turns an almost 90 degree angle and may have been altered from its natural position, but this is not certain. They may be associated with the site of medieval Chipley Priory (PSG 001) or with later activity at the site. The southwesternmost earthworks have been levelled but the others are visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2022 (S3) and it is likely that these still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 6th October 2026.
