Monument record BRF 130 - Medieval enclosures of probable Tofts and Croft, field system and livestock pen at East Anglia One Site 3

2017: Excavation uncovered a small U-shaped enclosure, along with a further enclosure to the south of the site. This enclosure was finds-rich with large amounts of medieval pottery recovered, mainly dating to the 12th-14th century. Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2017 (S1). Full report to follow.

The excavation revealed two well-defined enclosures or paddocks of Medieval two tofts originating in the 11th to 12th centuries, a 11th to 12th Century Pastoral field system and Livestock pen represented by ditches and gullies. The Site appears to have been in decline during the 13th Century and ended by the end. A single Post Medieval boundary ditch was recorded continuing th boundary between the two medieval enclosures (S2).
