Full Description
Length of road, Margary 34a, heading for Coddenham to NE. Partly alignment, partly modern course of road and parish boundary with Wattisham (S1). (See also HTC 019 & BIL 008.)
Site visit of a strip of land near RAF Wattisham airfield recorded the road area as having a maximum width of c.6m in the eastern part narrowing to c.4m in the west. The continued use of this route of Bildeston to Needham until the 20th Century has presumably caused the reduced level of the road and variable amounts of reduction by the ditches (S2).
Watching Brief for new electricity pole on one of supposed Roman Road. Hole located on south edge of belt of trees and scrub, included one tree stump in field. Ditch section showed undisturbed natural boulder clay below topsoil walked along road line to both west and small distance east where the lane survives under scrub and trees it shows as a sunken "hollow way". I f the line of Roman and Post Romann routes are identical all Roman construction likely to be obliterated (S3).
