Full Description

Church of St Edmund. Reputedly on the site of the last battle between the English and the Danes " Ethandune" (also see ASN 001 - supposed site of monastery where priests prayed for those slain in the battle). This legend shared with several other sites. Church listed with 30 acres in 1086. Chancel collapsed in 1827 (S1)(R1).
Church originally adjoined the west side of Assington Green (see ASN 013).
