Summary

Site of a farmhouse and associated buildings purchased by Queen's College, Cambridge, in 1470. The original building is thought to have been destroyed by fire before World War II, and the present house was built on the site. Also "site of" moat.

Full Description

"Site of" moat. Formerly rectangular, occupied, isolated, close to parish boundary. A farmhouse and buildings purchased by Queen's College, Cambridge in 1470; date of erection supposed to be earlier. House destroyed by fire in early C20 and present house is built on the old site (S1). Site totally destroyed in 1978 (S2) - i.e. flattened, infilled.


1984? 12 rims, 24 body sherds grey wares circa C13. One shell-tempered rim, four base fragments, (S2).

Moon Hall, name confirmed, is a large modern house which shows no trace of an earlier building in its fabric. Local enquiries suggest the original building to have been destroyed just before the 1939-1945 war, and the present house built on the site, (S4).
