Full Description
Roman well. Noticed in 1948 as subsidence, investigated by bomb squad, `but digging was abandoned when it turned out to be a well, containing Roman pottery'. In the vicinity of other Romanmaterial (S6).
(TL 62566471) ROMAN WELL (R) (site of) (NAT) (S1)
A small subsidence noticed in 1948 proved to be a well containing Roman pottery, the site of which is now marked by a patch of nettles.
There are now no traces of the sites of these wells, the former falling within a pasture field and the latter within an afforested area. Nothing visible on OS air photographs. (S3)
