Full Description

Bronze hoard found on right-hand side of the road leading from Exning to Newmarket, circa 1832, `at a depth of more than 10 feet', `by a man while in search of gravel for the roads' (S1). Finds listed as `socketed celts' (S2)(S3); a plain axe (same?)(S4); spearheads (S1-S5); `some curious bullae' (S2)(S3) or `a bronze pendant ... resembling a bulla ... filled with baked clay' (S6) or `5 or 6' of same (S4) - clearly all pendants as in Welby hoard, Leics; `a pin with a chain' (S2); a socketed gouge (S2-S6); a bronze arrowhead (S4) or arrowheads (S1); `pieces of metal possibly parts of armour' (S4) - ?jangle plates; and `masses of fused metal' (S4)(S1).
