Full Description
Barrow (site of) - SW of Knox Lane (S1).
Practically obliterated, 1-1.5 feet high. Appears to be longer N-S than E-W. As 1837 map shows two tumuli here, the two may be represented by present elevation of the surface. 'Tradition' of four tumuli.
1962: This barrow has been levelled and no trace of it remains (R1).
Stone axe-hammer (see BA) reported by Warren:- `1849 I bought at Bardwell a stone hammer. It was found in removing a barrow on Bowback Heath, about 9 years before'. `Bowback Heath is in the parish of Bardwell, I remember several barrows on it, before it was inclosed' (S2).
Shown on 1878 OS map (S3)
Also BA.
