Full Description

Area of black earth on field, 24 feet by 21 feet ploughed by J Blake in November 1945 and reported to Basil Brown. In February 1946 B Brown and K Landymore trenched the area after making trial holes and section shows black earth layer 6 inches thick beneath 5-6 inches of topsoil. A bowl shaped depression with ten and a half inches of sooty black earth containing charcoal and one sherd of IA pottery was found overlying red burnt clay. Plans and sections in archive (S1,S2,S3).
Reported to OS in 1954.
