Full Description

On high chalk land at Wangford are 25 oval pits, the largest of which is 18 feet in diameter and 5 feet deep (these are shown on the OS 25" map, xii, 7) (S1) at TL7583 according to (S2).
The above mentioned kilometer square is flat sandy soil now (1979) mainly under plough. The high chalk land at Wangford, possibly TL 777 815 area, is now afforested, no pits are know in the area (S2).
Nothing shown on SCC Mapinfo copies 0f 1880s (county1) or 1900s (county2) maps.
Original 25" maps need checking (not held by SCC record office).
