Monument record BOT 003 - "Copper Kettle"

Med C15 glazed pottery sherds found in ditch cut by sewer trench in 1961. Pottery was found on sand in ditch bottom covered by black earth with animal bones. The Copper Kettle is also known as Osmund House, which name dates from at least 1790 (S1)(S2).
Old road beds were sectioned at two points 50 feet apart at the time of the trenching and led from Botesdale market place to Back Hills. They consisted of four distinct chalk make ups, the lower ones containing bones and C14 and C15 pottery as at the Copper Kettle (S3).
Circa 150 feet to NE lies Crownleigh House and finds in sewer trench were similar to Copper Kettle with early Tudor superimposed (S4). All finds at IPSMG.
