Full Description

IA bronze terret rings (two) ploughed out on a field W of Broom Hills circa 1925. Both bore traces of red enamel and engraving and were eventually acquired by IPSMG by exchange with NWHCM, 1956. Brown notes 1958, ridges or ploughed out earthworks, much dark soil, scrapers and flint flakes confined only to this field (none in surrounding fields), few calcined flints, no pottery.
At the same site in January 1960, a black patch had been noticed on the field by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), ploughman, and Basil Brown investigated this. The patch was circular and was overlying a burnt sand floor, thought to have possibly been a hut and hearth by B Brown and he found 3 sherds of pottery, vetted by R Rainbird Clarke, NWHCM, as IA 'B' & 'C', IPSMG says 'B', B Brown 'Saxon'. A second black patch was noted to the E of the first but not investigated (S1)(S2)(S3). (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s).
