Monument record SLY 039 - A possible Bronze Age round barrow visible as the cropmarks of concentric ring ditches in Shotley parish

Ring ditch, circa 25m diameter. A double ditch is present from the NE-SW inside the ring ditch, inner ditch circa 15m diameter. Within cropmark complex SLY 011, traversed? by trackway from E (S1-S3) (S2).

A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as the cropmarks of two concentric ring ditches on aerial photographs, centred on TM 22903521 in a field to the north of Shotley village. The outer ring ditch encloses an area roughly 20m in diameter and the inner ring ditch, of which only the southern half is clearly visible, probably encloses an area roughly 12m in diameter. The ring ditches are not particularly clear on any of the available photography but they probably represent the remains of a Bronze Age burial mound. (S1-S4) (S6)
