Full Description

Ring ditch, circa 30m diameter. One of a close group of three (also FRT 025,026), within field system, FRT 007, and close to enclosure, FRT 027 and track (S1-S4).
A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as the cropmark of a ring ditch on aerial photographs, located at TM 17203933 in the field to the south of Freston Wood, Freston parish. The ring ditch encloses an area of, on average, 23.5m and is located in close proximity to two other ring ditches, FRT 025 and FRT 026. This group of three ring ditches is unusually regular in its arrangement and all three ring ditches appear to enclose an area of very similar diameter. (S1-S4, S7-S8) However there was no evidence available during the project to suggest that the ring ditches should be interpreted as Post Medieval or Modern features and it is possible that they represent the remains of ploughed out round barrows of Bronze Age date.
