Full Description
Red deer horn stamp found on surface by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (now deceased) at Caudle Head `on the Lakenheath -(see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)'. Associated with `a scatter of "pottery, glass, teeth, bones etc"' (Rom?/Sax?- note large Rom scatter in area). Stamp was broken when found. It consists of three concentric lines with a central dot, very accurate & close together. Imprint measures 7 x 7mm. Myres of opinion that stamp comes from Lackford/ Illington potter (S1)(S3).
Draft Sax corpus lists stamp as antler, sawn & knife trimmed (S2). For other potters stamps, see Lakenheath Misc and West Stow 002. Formerly recorded as ERL Misc.
