Full Description

1988: Watching brief uncovered large WW2 air-raid shelter and bases of 18 Late Saxon and Medieval pits, densest near St Matthews Street frontage. Pits planned and small amounts of pottery recovered including Thetford, St. Neots, Early Medieval and Medieval wares, and fragment of daub. Also one sherd of residual or unstratified Ipswich ware, (S1-S3).
