Full Description
"Some evidence that original manor house was circa 300 yards S of church (WNN 006), on formerly-moated site known as Old Yards" (S1).
1601: Part of Church Field; 1845 Tithe Map is known as Old Barn Yard. Mid C19 known as `The Bow and Arrow Place', more recently as The Old Yards/Oak Field. `At one time this area was thought to be a site of an old manor house but it is now considered more likely that it was the site of barns for cattle the reservoir in this area has been constructed out of the massive moat' (S2). Subrectangular ditches cut by two large ponds(?) with earthwork bank circa 30m to N shown on OS 1:10560 map of circa 1957. By 1983 bank gone and two ponds linked to form large long reservoir.
