Full Description
September 2013. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The former earthworks of ditches, enclosures and boundaries associated with Gunton Old Hall (LWT 022) were visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). The site is centred on TM 5393 9567. It is probable that most of these features are associated with landscape features and boundaries associated with the former Hall, although it is feasible that some relate to former medieval settlement and/or agriculture. Some more uncertain or ephemeral vegetation marks and possible slight earthworks within the western part of the site were omitted from the mapping.
S. Horlock (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 12th September 2013.
March 2023. Assessment of the Character and Significance of East Anglian Field Systems project.
The site described above was included in the dataset analysed for the Historic England-funded Assessment of East Anglian Field Systems project. See the project report (S5) for further details.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 21 March 2023.
