Full Description
January 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The cropmarks of a possible circular enclosure, of uncertain archaeological origin, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The site is centred on TM 5096 9582. The main component of the site is a relatively broad ditched incomplete ring ditch or circular enclosure, measuring 73.5m across. A further arc of ditch to the northwest could indicate an additional feature. These cropmarks were not visible on additional photography and it the archaeological origin of the cropmarks was not felt to be definite and it is feasible that they relate to either agricultural activity or perhaps cropmarks caused by the edge of an infilled pit or similar feature. A possible low earthwork mound was vaguely discernable within the area of the larger ring ditch in 1946 (S2), however, as with the cropmarks its origin is uncertain and may be a natural undulation or again relate to a former infilled area.
