Monument record SOL 056 - Cropmarks of possible enclosure of uncertain date and significance

Please read our .

Summary

The indistinct cropmarks of a possible enclosure or broad boundary ditch of unknown, but possible medieval to post medieval date, may be visible on aerial photographs. The Hodkinson map of 1783 indicates that this feature was located on the edge of the common and may represent a stock enclosure or encroachment onto the common or alternatively a medieval common-edge settlement. Although it must be noted that the cropmarks are of uncertain archaeological origin and could feasibly relate natural features.
