Full Description
April 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The cropmarks and soilmarks of multiphase fragmentary enclosures, field boundaries and trackways are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S6). Although there would appear to be at least two phases to these cropmarks, the division between the two is not clear and some components, such as the trackway, would appear to be incorporated into both ‘phases’. There is also limited scope within the current project to attempt to record such multiphase areas individually. At least some of the boundaries may be medieval to post medieval in date, however it seems likely that the earliest features are later prehistoric and/or Roman in date. Roman finds have been found within the area of the site (LWT 008). Cropmarks recorded to the south (LWT 287, LWT 289) are likely to be part of the same landscapes.
Within an area of possible rectilinear enclosures, located on TM 5323 9479, are two small ring ditches, possibly the remains of small domestic or agricultural structures.
