Full Description
In small wood on opposite side of road from Benacre Church. A small type 22 pillbox with smooth concrete sides. The entrance is not visible from the road and there is no blast wall. The small embrasures have been blocked by bricks. The pillbox faces N and there are clear marks on the concrete from the shuttering (S1).
June 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The pillbox described above is visible on aerial photographs (S2-S4). Two possible weapons pits are also visible to the east, and an area of possible temporary World War Two structures can be seen to the west, although it is possible that these structures relate to agricultural activity.
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 18th June 2014.
