Full Description

Small area of rectilinear fields/enclosures.
Within CDD 003 Rom settlement but beyond identified occupation areas (S1).

Cropmarks of a series of rectilinear enclosures, pits and field systems, probably of Roman date. The main concetration of enclosures probably represents a small Roman farmstead with surrounding paddocks and fields. The enclosure has multiple divisions, some of which overlap, implying the layout was altered. 100m to the north is evidence for the Roman road which leads into the fort to the south-east. There are two smaller enclosures that are located just to the north of the visible field system. Neither enclosure is complete, one is rectangular, 10m wide with a angular corners, while the other has a curved end and is 7m wide. Helen Saunders (Essex County Council), February 2014. (S2-S5)
