Full Description

Ditch systems, mainly rectilinear, continuing S from BSD 005 (S1).

Extensive cropmarks of field boundaries, trackway, enclsoures, a round barrow and a wood boundary of a multi-period date. The round barrow is 17m in diameter, with no entrances or internal features. The enclosure is incomplete and is on a different orientation to the surrounding field boundaries and is crossed by a narrow trackway which runs on a south-west - north-east orientation. The enclosure is at least 100m by 73m. A long wide ditch than is visible for over 300m is thought to be a former wood boundary, although there is no evidence on the 1st-3rd Edition OS mapping for a wood in this area, there are woods to the south and east of the cropmarks. Helen Saunders (Essex County Council). December 2014. (S3-S6)
