Full Description
A World War II 'Diver' Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery site is visible in 1945 at TM 53098376, at Beach Farm. The site comprises a number of huts actually at Beach Farm as well as four gun sites, huts, trackways and associated features at TM 530836 (S1). The site was cleared by 1952 (S2). The 'Diver' Batteries were constructed late in the war and were intended to combat German V1s.
Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery in the diver Strip at Benacre. It was armed with four 3.7-inch Mark IIc guns equipped with Predictor BTL, and Radar AA No.3 Mark V when it was deployed here on 24th November 1944, and was manned by 512 Battery of 149 (Mixed) Anti Aircraft Artillery Regiment. It formed part of 63 Heavy Anti Aircraft Brigade deployment (S3).
Initially numbered as BNC 025 during pilot survey of intertial area. Also given duplicate number (now deleted) as BNC 039. Re-numbered Nov 2004
