Full Description

A World War II anti-tank ditch can be seen partially constructed in 1940 (S1). It is visible as an unconsolidated bank along one side of an exisiting drainage ditch that is being widened in order to create an effective defence against invasion by tanks. In 1941 the drainage ditch has been modified from TM 379452 to TM 374445 and a road block consisting of four anti-tank cubes has been added across the track that breaks the ditch. The road block would have restricted access from the coast to the nearby settlement of Hollesley. The anti-tank ditch appears to end where its role is taken over by an existing seabank and ditch. The features form part of the extensive World War II defenses along this stretch of the coast (S2). The cubes across the road are still visible in 1971 (S3).
