Full Description

A section of trench, crenellated in shape, c90m long can be seen as a faint earthwork on 1940 aerial photos (S1) on Gunton Denes. This shape of trench is often most commonly associated with World War I, and it is possible, given the faint nature of the earthwork, that this trench may have dated from 1914-1919. It can still just about be made out on 1941 aerial photos (S2), but by March 1944 any traces of the trench have been obliterated by a series of bomb craters in the area (S3) - see record LWT 069 (XS19032).
