Full Description

A linear sea defence bank can be seen extending northwards into the channel at Orford Haven from TM37304395. It appears to have been substantially eroded at its northern end as the coastline and the alignment of the pits to the west (HLY 048) suggest it may have extended further into the channel. The bank is not depicted on the OS 1:2500 1st or 2nd Ed. This may indicate that it had gone out of use by late in the C19 and this, along with the level of erosion of the bank, may suggest a Post Medieval date for the feature. (S1)
An linear area of higher ground on a similar alignment to the north of the bank is possibly reflecting the original extent of the feature. (S2)
