Monument record COR 042 - World War II features, including trenches, pillboxes and a possible gun emplacement.

Various military features are visible on 1941 aerial photographs (S1) on a stretch of land to the east of Rogerson Hall Holiday Centre, north of Corton, which runs right up to the cliff edge. There are no features visible here in February 1941, but by August 1941, there are 2 trenches which but up to the cliff edge, with associated banks behind them. There are hexagonal pillboxes at TM53989868 & TM54039588, and a possible gun emplacement at TM53989867. Slightly further inland, there appear to be a number of further small features, such as small stretches of zig-zag trench, banks and unidentified holes. It is possible that this area was used by the military as a training area, although it is difficult to be certain from the photographs. These features can still be seen on 1944 aerial photographs (S2), although there is still not enough detail to be certain about the exact function of this site.
