Full Description
Probable World War II practice trenches are visible on the beach to the south of Shingle Street from 1941 onwards. The feature consists of a small network of trenches that are interlinked, one appears to be in a crenellated pattern. (S1) (S2) In the Floodlight Series photographs from 1953 the trenches are particularly clear and a bomb crater is also visible. It is unclear when this bomb was dropped but it appears to post-date the practice trenches. (S3)
See BAW 064, BAW 067, BAW 068, BAW 078 and BAW 079 for similar trenches on the beach.
