Full Description

A military strongpoint, consisting of an irregular ring of barbed wire enclosing a gun emplacement, pillbox and small slit trenches, can be seen on 1941 aerial photographs (S1). The pillbox appears to be square and c 5m across. The feature straddles a road and three field boundaries, and in fact rosses into Reydon parish. It's function is not clear, but it would most probably have played a part in the coastal defences of this area (at c 100m away from the 1940s cliff edge), possibly as a practice feature. It can still be seen on 1943 photographs (S2).
