Full Description

A pair of small circular, embanked features, c 5m across, can be seen as earthworks to the west of Southend Warren (S1). It seems that these are WWII gun emplacements, although they could be bomb craters, but there does not appear to be enough upcast to suggest this, and in addition, the features are fairly regular. They are most likely to be of WWII date though, whatever their function. The features are still visible, picked out by snow, on aerial photographs from 1943 (S2).
