Full Description

A line of anti-tank cubes just over 1km long can be seen on Southwold beach on aerial photographs from 1940 (S1,S2). They are still visible, on the whole, 'in situ' on photographs from 1943 (S3). A square structure, c 5m across, is visible at a gap in the line of anti-tank cubes, at TM50657523. This seems most likely to be a pillbox, also forming part of the defences. These cubes were a component of the World War II coastal defences in this area, and part of a line of defence which covered most of the East Anglian coast.
