Full Description

Two trenches can be seen in a field on the western edge of Walberswick on a 1941 aerial photograph (S1). Both are located very close to, or straddling, field boundaries. These trenches and a significant amount of ground around them are surrounded by a barbed wire enclosure, which cuts across various field boundaries and a road. Just beyond the southern end of the barbed wire enclosure are three small trenches, which look quite fresh on the 1941 photograph. These may be weapons pits of World War II date. By 1945 (S2) the barbed wire has been removed and the trenches have been filled in. The features are of World War II date and appear to have formed some kind of military strongpoint.
