Full Description

A possible trackway is visible crossing a field to the south-west of what is now the golf club. Although the trackway follows the line of a footpath, marked on the OS 1st Ed of 1884, its nature suggests that there is a possibility that it may have once been something much more substantial and may have linked to the green lane which runs down to the coast. (S1) (S2) (S3) The trackway must have been fairly significant as it is still visible in 1948, after the site has been reused for military activities during World War II. (S4) (S5)
A shingle road surface, presumed 13th century or later, is described at TM 322363 in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and Natural History 1958-1960. (S6) The feature visible on the aerial photographs is probably the same road surface and may also be related to the road surfaces described in FEX 013 and FEX 015. (S7)
