Full Description

A deep narrow trench can be seen just to the east of the Martello Tower on the Golf Links at Felixstowe in 1944. It is of World War II date and was constructed at some time after July 1940. It probably had a military function but it appears to be more substantial that a typical practice trench. (S1) (S2) By October 1945 substantial banks have been constructed at either side of the trench and more trenches have been constructed parallel to these banks. Its function remains unclear. (S3)
