Full Description

Aerial photographs from 1945 (S1) show a sea bank, c1.75km long, running along the northern edge of the River Blyth, to the south of Bulcamp. The bank runs from TM44157541 to TM45317567, and can be seen on these photographs in its entirety. The mapped bank corresponds closely with that depicted on the 1st Ed OS 25" map of c1884, so it would thus appear that these flood defences originated in the post-medieval period. These sea banks would have worked in tandem with those found on the southern edge of the river (see BLB 048).
