Full Description
An L-shaped section of sea bank, c 450m long, is visible to the west of Union Farm, Bulcamp, as an earthwork on 1945 aerial photographs (S1). The bank runs from TM43837584 to TM44057556, along the north-eastern edge of the River Blyth. The feature mapped from aerial photographs corresponds with that depicted on the OS 1st Ed 25" map of c1884, which suggests a post-medieval origin for this section of flood defence bank. This bank is part of a longer system of banks which follow the course of the River Blyth - more of which are likely to be found to the west of this L-shaped feature. This particular bank is the continuation of a bank visible to the east (see BLB 049), but a gap has been left due to the existence of woodland between these 2 sections of flood defence.
