Aerial photographs of 1973 (S1) show a number of linear and curvilinear cropmarks to the south of Walberswick, around TM49317450. The more northerly cropmarks, which have a slight curve to them, are roughly aligned with modern plots fronting on to The Street, Walberswick. It would thus appear that these cropmarks are showing the ditches of post-medieval and possibly medieval land boundaries. A further cropmark running E-W to the south of these land divisions would appear to be some kind of trackway, possibly a back lane behind the plots of land. To the south of this lane is another cropmark, which appears to be part of a rectilinear enclosure, at least 800m long, with a gap in the ditch to the north, and an entrance 'avenue' to the west. The date of this enclosure is unknown. The land divisions seen to the north of this may well date back to the medieval period, as the curved nature of the features is reminiscent of the reversed-S shape created in boundaries adjacent to areas of ridge and furrow. There map also be a small pit visible as a cropmark at TM49287457.
