Monument record DUN 035 - Post Medieval causeway and flood defences, cisible as sections of earthwork bank.

Six sections of earthwork bank are visible in the vicintity of Dingle Great Hill and Dingle Little Hill on aerial photographs from 1945 (S1). The earthwork banks skirt the two hillocks and form causeways between them. The earthworks forming the causeways are visible on the 1880s 1st Ed OS County Series 25" map, which would suggest a post medieval date. Those skirting the hillocks could be more recent, but they may also be older than the other banks, and may have been too slight for inclusion as earthworks on the 1880s map. These features were presumably part of the flood defences in this area, protecting the hills and the paths between them.
