Full Description

Two areas of ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on Dingle Great Hill on aerial photographs from 1945 (S1) and 1955 (S2). One area of ridge and furrow, centred around TM48357311, is quite broad, with the furrows c5-6m apart. It is quite regular and reasonably straight suggesting a post-medieval and possibly modern date. The second area of ridge and furrow is somewhat narrower, with the furrows c2-3m apart. Again this would suggests a post-medieval or possibly modern date. This ridge and furrow is also reasonably regular. The hill is an area of good cultivatable land in an area of coastal saltmarsh, and these earthworks suggest that this resource has been fully utilised.
