Full Description

A cluster of small trenches of WWII date are visible on the beach to the east of Dingle Marshes on aerial photographs from 1941 (S1). One or two of the trenches appear to be almost circular in form, and may thus be weapons pits or even possibly gun emplacements. The features are still visible on aerial photographs from 1945 (S2), which suggests that they were intended to be semi-permanent features. The trenches and pits would have formed a part of the World War II defences in this area, and may have been used in conjunction with the extensive beach defences visible along much of the coast of eastern England.
