Full Description

An anti-tank ditch of World War II date can be seen as an earthwork on 1945 aerial photographs (S1), running between TM46816919 & TM47387064 for 1.9km, to the south-west of Dunwich. Some section of the ditch appear to have been made by widening and deepening existing water courses. The ditch follows field boundaries in some places and cuts across fields in others. Most of the sections of the ditch have an associated bank, created by the upcast from the construction of the feature. The associated banks are virtually impossible to spot by the north-eastern (or upper) sections of the ditch. Anti-tank ditches were important defensive features of the World War II period, and were often a second line of defence, should the coastal defences fail.

Partially surviving (between Westleton Road and Sandy Lane, Broom Hill) in 2006 (S2).
