Full Description

A system of anti-aircraft ditches, c400m across, is visible as an earthwork on Dunwich Heath on 1941 aerial photographs (S1). Another short section of ditch, c50m long, can be seen just to the south of the larger feature. The ditches have associated banks, formed by piles of spoil from the digging of the ditches. These features are clearly visible on aerial photographs from 1945(S2) and 1946(S3), and would have been an important component of the defences of this area during the Second World War. These anti-aircraft ditches are likely to be associated with a similar feature located to the south-east (DUN 070).
